” Statistics show that 60% of failed wealth transitions occur due to a trust and communication breakdown within the family.  Equitas was created to ‘get people talking’ using expertly-trained facilitators with backgrounds in business, law and psychology.  I am extremely proud of the diversity, professionalism, courage and sensitivity that the Equitas team brings to every one of our client engagements.”

Ron practiced law for 25 years working with entrepreneurs and family businesses before deciding to launch Equitas Consultants. His decision to launch Equitas was based on what he saw as a missing link in the estate planning industry which was focused on the financial but not on the intellectual or human capital of a family enterprise.

As a devoted family and community-minded individual, Ron was troubled by the large number of cases that he saw during his legal career where good families and good businesses were torn apart over money and family business conflicts. Even though he profited from cases of that nature, it still bothered him that the professional services industry seemed always to be in reactive mode.  Equitas was created to proactively advise businesses and families in transition.

Role at Equitas

Ron advises and guides Equitas clients on practical and effective governance structures including the establishment of boards of directors, boards of advisors and family councils. In the area of ownership transitions Ron helps educate clients in the rights, roles and responsibilities of being a shareholder, and helps draft pre-legal shareholders agreements that aid in establishing ownership structures and formal shareholders agreements.
